The album reached No. 6 on theĀ UK Album ChartĀ and peaked at No. 3 in New Zealand in September 1981.Ā CloserĀ was also namedĀ NME Album of the year.Ā It wasĀ remasteredĀ and re-released in 2007.
Today,Ā CloserĀ is widely recognised as a seminal release of theĀ post-punkĀ era.Ā Following the release of the non-album single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in June 1980, the remaining members re-formed asĀ New Order.
